Liberty University Launches “Liberty Journal Radio”

Lynchburg, VA (PRWEB) October 13, 2011

Liberty University announced today that it has started a news radio program, ?Liberty Journal Radio,? a continuation of news coverage from the University magazine.

The 15-minute show, hosted by Mark Edwards, includes segments on significant speakers, singing groups, faculty members and students connected with the University.

The show, produced at Victory FM in Lynchburg, is available on the University-owned radio network, which includes more than 30 full-power stations and translators and covers most of Virginia and a large portion of eastern North Carolina.

Liberty Journal Radio is heard weekdays across the Victory Radio Network at 8:15 a.m. and 7:30 pm. The programs can also be heard live and are archived for download at http://www.victoryfm.net.

?I think this program greatly enhances the university?s ability to provide information on its Christ-based education,? Edwards said.

Victory FM is working in conjunction with the Liberty University News Office to produce content for the program.

The new project adds a sense of immediacy to Liberty?s news operation, which is intended to dispense pertinent information about significant events happening at the University.

While Liberty Journal magazine distributes more than 670,000 copies three times a year, the Liberty Journal Radio format provides an enhanced opportunity for listeners to get information in a more timely manner.

Content produced by the Liberty University News Office is also available in the News & Events section of the http://www.liberty.edu website and on social media websites at http://www.facebook.com/LibertyUniversity and http://www.twitter.com/libertyu and on Liberty?s mobile application, myLibertyU.

Recently, Victory FM filed news updates on the campus visits of Texas Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, both vying for the Republican presidential nomination.

?We were able to release stories about those events on the University website and on the radio network at the same time. It speaks to convergence of media and we are working toward the News Office being a hub for audio, video, and web content. Liberty Journal Radio is part of that content,? said Ron Brown, executive editor of the Liberty University News Office.

The News Office is designed to merge efforts of the University?s professional staff while providing ?real-life? job experience for aspiring journalists.

?I?ve already had two reports on the air, and it?s giving me more media experience to complement my TV internship and work on the student newspaper,? said Tola Adamson, a senior in Liberty?s School of Communication.

Newspaper Titles

Are newspaper writers losing their integrity? It seems that back in the day there was always a certain code of ethics among journalists. They say an investigative reporter will sell his own children to get a story, but he won’t steal someone else’s words when he writes it. The writers of years past may have operated that way, but with the availability of internet stories and quotes now that has all changed. What you read online and in newspapers today could very likely be a rewrite of someone else’s material, if not an outright copy and paste.

Newspaper plagiarism is a common practice today, especially for national and international stories. A writer in San Francisco can read a story in New York at 3:00 AM (EST) and have it ready to go in his own paper for the Midnight (PST) deadline. If he writes carefully and only plagiarizes the quotes, he might just get away with it and keep his job.

The story won’t be Pulitzer material, but who cares? The deadline will be met, the story will get published, and no one will be the wiser for it, right?

Society has reached a point where the distribution of information is becoming far more important than the quality. If you can repost something multiple times on Facebook, why not plagiarize a few articles? In the days before the web there were editors who cared about that type of thing, but now it seems like everything is duplicate content. Just getting it out there is all that matters. It’s sad, but unfortunately that’s the way many publications do business now.

There is a bright spot, though. It’s almost a Catch-22 for newspaper reporters. If you plagiarize an article and send it to print and only print you might get away with it.

If your newspaper publishes that story online, you’re going to get caught. Duplicate content is flagged by search engines and penalized by lowering the page rank of the site displaying it. Any newspaper with an online option is tracking page rank, so continuous penalties will be noticed. To avoid them altogether, editors are now starting to use online software that checks for duplication. Even the smallest reproductions are sent back for rewrite, forcing reporters to once again do their own writing.

If you read science fiction, you’ll notice disturbing similarities in older works that accurately portray the beliefs and behaviors of our modern society. In Isaac Asimov’s “Foundation” series, there is a brief story about the search for the origin of humanity. An “archeologist” from the decaying empire tells of how he studied the works of others who visited different “origin” worlds and came to a conclusion based on their writings. When asked why he didn’t just visit the sites explored himself, he was horrified. “The work has already been done by others,” he exclaims. “Why would I do it again?” The empire fell soon after that. Perhaps there’s a lesson to be learned there for authors who practice newspaper plagiarism.

I write content on a variety of topics including internet marketing, San Francisco SEO, PPC campaigns, recruiting software, applicant tracking, plagiarism detection, junk hauling services, vacation deals and franchise marketing.

Reading Sunday paper today… duh.

Funny enough I have been talking about US immigration policies also this weekend. I am particulary interested in this as I am evaluating my current odds to move abroad in the short run. Any information, suggestion, experiences you may be able to share -and want- will be welcome and much appreciated. (you can email me if you want to share something but not down here in the public thread). =)

For what the journalist says (marked in circles above) the White House declared this weekend that US government is working on a reformulation of the immigration policies, due to the problems with illegals. Under this new policy they will be allowed to fight harder illegal immigration, but as well, they will allow temporary alien workers or foreigners invited, to stay in the country for up to 3 years. [not translated literally, and as well I am not so sure about the journalist translation]

As it sounds, it is good news for those foreign people wanting to enter the US under legal circumstances. But as sometimes newspapers don´t say it like it is, I decided to post this here.

If anybody knows some more, would like to give their opinion in the subject, tell their experience, or share their knowlegde on this matter, please do contribute here. THANK YOU.

I don’t usually care for black and white photos but it seemed appropriate for today. Fort Monmouth, NJ is on the list suggested for closure. I was born on the Fort and it’s been in my backyard my entire life. After the Gulf War, troops were released out of Fort Monmouth and we went there around midnight that night to welome back the troops. What a night that was.

New Jersey hasn’t given up the fight for this Fort. Let’s see what happens.

Its a shock to see that in a country which considers itself in all the standards, have a sweet way to kill its own people.
I admire the lifestyles and the way how people put their faith and trust in the doctors which are always bound with only providing u a smooth transition to your own exit. I am so enthusiastically impressed and shocked to hear. I knew that behind the scenes such things are so more complicated, the way things work – ofcourse the NHS has the best services for its people.

The front page from today’s (May 16, 2008) newspaper.

Everyone’s gas prices are going up, but have a look at what people in Alaska’s bush face. It makes Anchorage gas prices pale in comparison.

On the right side of the ADN front page, you can see how Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is trying to combat the rising prices. She’s putting forward the possibility of a "relief plan" that would give Alaska residents debit cards that can be charged 0 a month. I believe this debit card would only be able to be used for energy purposes, meaning gas or any utilities. If all the money is not used, it would roll over to the next month.

You can actually read this if you look at it large.
